The BPK said in a statement on Friday the board was appointed to lead the organization at the 11th Steering Committee Meeting of INTOSAI WGEA in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 11, 2011, attended by 32 delegates from 16 countries.
The BPK will replace the National Audit Office of Estonia as chief of the INTOSAI WGEA in 2013.
At the meeting, the BPK delegation was led by Ali Masykur Musa with Edward G.H. Simanjuntak, Arif Senjaya, Esther Simanjuntak and Krisnanto Adi Nugroho as members.
"BPK RI is committed to improving the environment`s quality by conducting a perspective environmental audit and being an active member of INTOSAI WGEA," Ali Masykur said.
This was not only because the environment was a global issue but also because BPK had the moral obligation to do so as mandated by the Indonesian constitution, he said.
At the election, BPK received the vast majority of votes from members of the WGEA Steering Committee.
BPK said the vast majority of votes was inseparable from its active role as a WGEA member since 1999 and a member of the steering committee since 2004.
As a member of the working group, BPK had succeeded in formulating guidelines for forestry audits which now served as reference for audit institutions worldwide, the statement said.
INTOSAI is an independent international organization overseeing government external audit institutions all over the world.
