Washington, Dec. 7 (ANTARA/Xinhua-OANA) - The United States "strongly condemns" the two suicide bombings on Tuesday that left at least 59 people dead and 154 others injured in Afghanistan`s cities of Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif, the White House said.

Noting that many of the victims are women and children and worshippers who were observing Ashura, the Muslim day of mourning, White House spokesman Jay Carney said that "The United States continues to stand with the Afghan people against terrorism."

"Our thoughts and condolences are with those affected by these heinous acts," he added.

The bombings came one day after an international conference concluded in Bonn, Germany over the future of Afghanistan after U. S. and NATO troops withdraw by the end of 2014.
