Jakarta (ANTARA News) - It will be difficult for Indonesia to achieve its gross domestic product (GDP) target of US$4.5 trillion in 2025 if its workers` productivity is not increased, a business community leader said.

According to Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Suryo Bambang Sulistio here on Wednesday, the government has set the target 2025 GDP target based on its master plan for acceleration and expansion of economic development (MP3EI).

He told a seminar at the industry ministry that the government could achieve the target if the productivity of Indonesian workers was high.

The Kadin chairman said a high level of economic growth could enhance employment but the target could be achieved only if work productivity was high.

"Thus the problems now being faced are not only how to enhance employment opportunities but also how to increase productivity in order to reach a high economic growth," he said.

He said that the government`s desire to create a high economic growth and provide a large number of high productivity workers were actually an endless vicious circle.

Therefore, the government must make efforts to break the vicious circle in the first place.

"If people now unemployed do not get a job, the efforts to carry out development toward the achievement of the 4.5 trillion dollar GDP with a per capita income of 15,000 US dollars will be hampered," Suryo said.

He said that Kadin was ready to adopt a policy and increase investment in order to increase growth and produce productive workers and entrepreneurs.
