Sleman, Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Officials are now preparing an evacuation of Sriwijaya Airline`s plane which was reported to have skidded at Adisutjipto airport, Yogyakarta on December 20.

According to Adisutjipto`s Angkasa Pura I General Manager Agus Adrianto, the plane will be evacuated to the taxi area, after previously stuck in the end of the airport`s runway with one of its landing gears broken.

The evacuation is done by Sriwijaya airlines crew members assisted by the Angkasa Pura I and technicians for further investigation, he said.

"The Taxi Way is wider and have hard ground to facilitate the investigation prepared in the area," he said.

The Sriwijaya Air plane skidded and fell on the east side of the runway at Yogyakarta airport Adisutjipto Tuesday (20/12) at around 17:10 pm.

The Boeing 737-300 was carrying 118 passengers, including seven children and four infants. Sriwijaya Air departs from Jakarta at around 13:45 pm.

This plane should landed at the airport of Adisutjipto 50 minutes later, but since that time the airport was closed due to bad weather and visibility was only 500 meters, then transferred to Surabaya.

Then in Surabaya plane was refueled, and departed to Yogyakarta.

The plane was actually recommended to have landed in Adisutjipto at 17:05 pm, however there was a Garuda plane also landed at that time then Sriwijaya landed at 17:13 pm.

The Sriwijaya aircraft went out of control when landing at the airport due a brake malfunction and continued moving away to the east side of the runway and skidded on the left side of the runway, and stopped at the grass area.(*)
