The Islamic center would be constructed in a 35-ha plot of land located near the State Islamic University (UIN) and Grand Mosque, South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin said here on friday evening in a coordinating meeting of Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) officials in southern Sumatran provinces.
The meeting was attended by MUI Chairman Prof Dr Din Syamsuddin and representatives of regional MUI offices from Jambi, Lampung, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung and South Sumatra.
The construction of the Islamic Center will use the funds from the third parties including the public, according to the governor.
The Islamic Center`s activities will include Qur`an recital and researches on Islamic sciences.
