The dead victims were identified as Arief Rahman,18 and Syaiful,17, the NTB provincial police chief Brig.Gen Arif Wachyunadi said, adding that three of the arrested demonstrators were suspected of being provocateurs with H acting as the rally`s coordinator.
A police spokesman said H proved to be someone who had been on the local police`s wanted persons list for a long time.
According to the police, the other two provocateurs were S and A alias Owen.
As many as 31 of the 36 demonstrators were males and 26 of the 31 were adults and the rest children.
In addition, police also confiscated 20 machetes, four crescent blades, 10 spears, some large and small stones and Molotov cocktails as evidence.
Apart from that, the police also confiscated gasoline in "aqua" bottles, a black bag, a Carry Pick-Up car, a motorcycle and megaphone and other public speaking equipment.
The local police chief also said after the demonstrators had left the scene, an angry mob torched the Lambu police precinct and several other government office buildings.
Brig Gen Arif Wachyunadi said the police had no choice but to disperse the rally because its organizers, who called themselves the Anti-Mining People`s Front (FRAT), had been instigating the community in Sape harbor since December 19, 2011.
"The rally was disturbing public order as it hindered the flow of people and vehicles from Sape harbor for Flores," Arif added.(*)
