Jakarta (ANTARA News) - More than 654.9 thousand foreign tourists visited Indonesia in November 2011, up 13.28 percent from 578.2 thousand in November 2010, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.

Compared to October 2011, the number of tourist arrivals in November 2011 fell slightly by 0.16 percent, acting BPS chief Suryamin said here on Monday.

Most of the tourists visited Indonesia via Ngurah Rai airport in Bali with 220.3 thousand tourists, Soekarno-Hatta airport in Jakarta 171.2 thousand, Hang Nadim airport in Batam 100.4 thousand and Juanda airport in Surabaya 18.6 thousand, he said.

The tourist arrivals in November 2011 brought the number of tourist arrivals in the year ended November 30, 2011 to 6.92 million, a 8.91 percent increase compared to 6.35 million in the same period in 2010, he said.

He said he was optimistic that the government-set tourist arrival target of 7.5 million to 7.7 million for 2011 would be achieved.

"About 600 thousand more tourist arrivals are needed to achieve the target of 7.5 million to 7.7 million tourist arrivals," he said. (S012)
