"All of the Nature Lover Students (Mapala) of Unsultra who were trapped during the scientific expedition in the cave are now being treated at Wolo Hospital of North Kolaka District," spokesperson of South East Sulawesi Police Office Adjunct Senior Commissioner Much. Fachrurrozi said here Wednesday.
The four students rescued by the Search and Rescue Team and local residents are Hudianto (24), Henggar (21), Arya Wisnu (24), and Muh Guntur (23), residents of Kendari.
Hudianto, who lives on S. Parman Street of Kendari, broke his left arm and injured his right leg.
Arya Wisnu, who lives in Kamboja Street of Mandonga Sub-District, and Muh Guntur, who resides in BTN Pondok Indah of Lepo-Lepo Village, are exhausted and being treated in Wolo Hospital.
Meanwhile, Henggar, who lives on Flamboyan Street of Kendari, is in good condition.
According to Fachrurrozi, the cave expedition team consisted of seven students. In addition to the four, the other three are Sumarlinto, Mansyura and Ompeng.
The team started the expedition on 18 December 2011 and was supposed to finish it on December 28 2011.
However, during the climbing on a 1,800 meters altitude on the very last day of the expedition, Hudianto fell into a deep cliff.
Sumarlito, Mansyura and Ompeng managed to avoid escape from the cliff and went to ask for help from the local residents for the trapped students, Fachrurrozi said.
Receiving the report, the Search and Rescue Team, Police and other technical institutions conducted a search and rescue operation for the victims.
The four students are now being treated at the hospital for recovery treatment.
Mount Mekongga is the highest mount in South East Sulawesi in which the peak is 2,790 meters above sea level
As a part of Mekongga Mountain, this mount is known as a place for mountaineering and cave exploration.
