Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has named senior lawyer Albert Hasibuan as a member of the presidential advisory council.

Hasibuan said after his installation here on Tuesday he hoped law enforcement and the settlement of cases of human rights violations in the past could be improved so that President Yudhoyono`s government would become stronger and able to meet all the development targets until 2014.

"With regard to law enforcement it is found not to run well yet, the rule of law has not yet been upheld. If we will study their causes, there will be many. However, I will do it. Problems are also found with regard to justice. Many people at the grassroots have even been punished. I will study them all and give inputs to the president so that the rule of law can be implemented well," he said after his installation by the President at the presidential palace.

The former member of the National Commission on Human Rights said he hoped the inputs he gave to the President later could help him in his efforts in the fields of law enforcement and human rights.

"I saw the issue has been discussed much by government officials and community members. Therefore I will make a special note of it for me to advise the President," he said.

He said he had set a target of releasing the nation of its burden of human rights problems made in the past during his tenure until 2014.

"We have so far felt a kind of history burden in connection with human rights problems that remained unsettled. So I plan to settle the problem. The President in a meeting with me in Cikeas (his residence) said he hoped by 2014 people would be free of the burden and so if possible the issue must be settled," he said.

Regarding legal cases affecting the poor Albert said that security authorities actually worked for the people especially the poor.

"The economically-weak group must be treated well. And this must be the main focus so that people will feel that justice is done," he said.
