AGO was taking over the case not because of its value that reached trillions of rupiah but because it had the potential of leading to the discovery of a wider scope of the scandal.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Attorney General`s Office (AGO) is taking over from the West Java High Court the handling of an alleged corruption case in Indosat worth Rp3.8 trillion, an AGO spokesman said.

"Yes, we are taking it over its handling from the West Java High Court because its `locus delicti` covers not only West Java," Junior Attorney General for Special Crimea Andhi Nirwanto said here on Friday.

The case involves Indosat and its subsidiary Mega Media (IM2) in the alleged misappropriation of a 2.1 Ghz frequency band worth Rp3.8 trillion.

Andhi said the AGO was taking over the case not because of its value that reached trillions of rupiah but because it had the potential of leading to the discovery of a wider scope of the scandal.

He said that his side would hold a meeting next week to consider whether or not the status of the case could be raised from examination to investigation.

An online media earlier reported that a non-governmental organization, Indonesian Telecommunication Consumer (KTI), had reported Indosat and its subsidiary IM2 to the West Java high court over the misappropriation of the third generation 2.1 Ghz frequency band.

As a result of the misappropriation, according to KTI, the state suffered a loss of Rp3.8 trillion.(*)
