"If we want to ask the people to reduce subsidized gasoline consumption, we must start using gas fuel converters on the cars of minister," Hatta Rajasa said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-owned aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is ready to install a fuel converter for the official cars of Indonesian cabinet ministers, a minister said.

Indonesian Coordinating minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa said here Monday that the ministers will start using fuel converters installed for their cars before the subsidized gasoline consumption restriction imposed in April 2012.

"If we want to ask the people to reduce subsidized gasoline consumption, we must start using gas fuel converters on the cars of minister," he said.

According to him, the installation of fuel converters made by PT DI for ministers` official cars will become an imperative. The use of converters has already been started by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono, said the converters will not only be installed in ministers` cars but also by those of all senior state officials.

Agung said the converters will be distributed free by the government because the official cars are basically state assets.

According to Hatta, the installation of the converters will be coordinated by the State Secretariat because the ministers` official cars are state assets which are managed by the Secretariat.

Agung also made sure the converters are made by PT DI in only 300 units and still needed to imported.

However, PT DI will be assisted by several other state-owned enterprises to produce the converters so the company does not rely on imports.(*)
