Bogor, West Java (ANTARA News) - Police in Bogor, West Java, appealed to members of an organization that recently attacked a traffic police officer in Caringin to turn themselves in before a search was launched to arrest them.

"We give them 1x24 hours to surrender. If they don`t, we will chase them at all cost," chief intelligence of the Bogor Resort Police Adjunct Commissioner Imron Ernawan said here on Monday.

He said the police had questioned a number of witnesses in connection with the attack on First Brigadier Dodi Sanjaya.

"We have gathered information from the witnesses. We will process the case according to the law," he said.

Imron said he had the names and characteristics of the suspects who were members of a certain organization in Sukabumi, West Java.

The incident occurred on Sunday (Jan 22) while First Brigadier Dodi was on duty regulating traffic in Caringin.

"It happened at around 2pm while the victim was on duty there," he said.

Imron said the attack was done by members of an organization who were on their way home after demonstrating near the disputed Yasmin church in Bogor city.

The attack was done by a group of people while Dodi was trying to maintain order in traffic flows in Simpang Cimande, Caringin, after a bus coming from Cimande hit the group who were returning from a demonstration at the Yasmin church in Bogor city.

Incensed by the bus driver`s mistake, the crowd began attacking the bus. First Brigadier Dody then came to the scene to stop the action but the crowd then turned on him, hitting him with helmets and rocks.

"Due to the crowd violence, Dodi suffered wounds on his head and forehead," Imron said.

He said the crowd continued hitting Dodi even after he had run as far away as 50 meters from the scene to save himself. Dodi was eventually taken to PMI Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Imron said nobody claiming to be religious-minded people should have committed what the crowd had done, much less against a state apparatus on duty.

"We call on all those who took part in the law-defying actions to give themselves up. If they don`t, we will pursue them at all cost," he said.
