President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono disclosed the plan in a meeting with journalists at the State Palace in Jakarta Monday night.
"Our law on mass organizations is a product of 1985, from 1985 to 2012 including the reform era many things had happened," he said.
With increasing freedom in line with the changing times, he said, it is as if residents and public organizations can do as they wish, triggering communal conflicts and horizontal clashes.
"So it is good that times had changed, and challenges have also developed, horizontal and communal clashes are easily triggered," he said.
A revision of the Law on mass organizations, he added,is needed to help public organizations to carry out their activities smoothly but under the regulations to avoid clashes and other violent action.
The Head of State made the call to avoid violent action in the country triggered by the provocative action of mass organizations.
The President also hoped the rejection of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) in Central Kalimantan would serve as a lesson to enable mass organizations to make a retrospection on the rejection from the public. (*)
