"That`s right, we have asked Diana Maringka to clarify her statement to the media because the matter is actually an internal matter of the party," TB Silalahi said when contacted over his cellphone.
In fact, he said, his commission had called a number of party cadres also for clarifications regarding Diana`s statement which was widely quoted by the media and had tended to create a negative public opinion about the party.
"Therefore, the Oversight Commission will have to respond to the media reports," he said.
Silalahi questioned Diana`s failure to report her experience to the party leadership and her decision to talk to the media instead.
The Oversight Commission was now still collecting more data and needed time to verify them. It had asked Diana to show proof of her statement to the media.
Diana, chairwoman of the Democrat Party`s Southeast Minahasa district branch, came to the office of the party`s Oversight Commission on Tuesday accompanied by a few associates.
A few days ago she told a local television station she had received Rp100 million in cash during the party`s congress in Bandung in May 2010 to vote for Anas Urbaningrum in the party`s chairmanship election. (*)
