Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government aims to lower the poverty rate to 4 percent or 5 percent by 2025 by implementing its Accelerated Poverty Eradication Program Master Plan (MP3KI), a minister said.

"We have this vision of having a per capita Gross Domestic Product of Rp15,000 plus and a poverty rate of 4 to 5 percent or even lower by 2015 and to achieve all of this there must be systematic planning," National Development Planning Minister/National Planning Board Chief Armida S Alisjahbana said here Friday.

She said the 4-5 percent poverty rate was a realistic target as the government had already gradually lowered it although there was still large gap between prosperity in Jakarta and other parts of the country.

"The poverty rate target for 2012 is 10.5-11.5 percent, for 2015 8-10 percent, for 2020 around 6-7 percent or even lower if the economy grows fast enough. And by 2025 we hope it will not be more than 4-5 percent," she said.

Armida said the government would begin the MP3KI by fine tuning the formation of four clusters that had already been incorporated in the long-term and medium-term development plans until 2014.

Then after 2014, the government would begin transforming the clusters in relation with the implementation of the Law on the Social Security Executive Body (BPJS) which mandates the establishment of BPJS for health and BPJS for workers.

Eventually, the entire social security system would become integrated through and the poor would be covered by insurance and thus enjoy better welfare.
