KPK Chairman Abraham Samad said here Monday the commission would do so in line with a recommendation adopted at its recent meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR)`s Bank Century Case Monitoring Team.
"We will strive to bring the case to a legally more actionable level this year but it cannot be very soon," Abraham said at a hearing with the House Comission III at the parliament building.
He was replying to the legislators` questions about the KPK`s work on the Bank Century bailout case.
Abraham said the KPK would do its best to make the Bank Century case legally actionable this year but if legislators demanded that it be done within the next one or two months, the KPK would not be able to oblige because it would need a longer time.
"We are now handling many cases such as that involving the SEA Games athletes` village, Hambalang and others, not just Bank Century," he said.
House Commission III member Bambang Soesatyo interrupted and asked Abraham what difficulties the KPK was facing in investigating the Bank Century bailout case.
Bambang referred to the fact that the State Audit Board (BPK) in its report on the results of its extended investigation into the Bank Century case had stated it had found indications of losses suffered by the state and unlawful acts in the extension of Rp6.7 trillion in bail out funds to the ailing bank.
"The wrongdoings in the Bank Century case are already crystal clear so the KPK does no longer need to consult law experts," he said.
Abraham said the question of raising the legal status of the Bank Century case to actionable level had to do with the KPK`s strategy and investigation findings that could not be divulged in a parliamentary forum.
