Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) has asked the Indonesian Corruption Commission (KPK) to monitor the arms procurement of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (TNI-Polri) for their main weapon system, its chairman said.

"We ask the KPK to monitor the military and police`s arms procurement projects which this year are worth Rp57 trillion," IPW Presidium Chairman Neta S Pane said here on Sunday.

He said that the KPK needed to watch the procurement projects in order to anticipate the possibility of misappropriation because the value of the project was high reaching Rp57 trillion.

Neta said that there were abnormalities with the procurement of six Sukhoi warplanes from Russia, namely SU-30MK2s.

He said that the three abnormalities included high price. "Vietnam bought 53 units of Sukhois already equipped with arms while Indonesia purchased 78.3 units without arms," he said.

Neta said that the purchase of the jet fighers was said to be carried out through a G-to-G facility, yet, in reality, there were parties which acted as suppliers.

The third is that there is the possibility of the current supplier to mark up the price of the planes to about 100 million US dollars, US$140 Rp900 billion and up to Rp1.2 trillion. (*)
