"We plan to open a representative office of state-owned companies in Myanmar. The office will employ three people," State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan said after a national seminar on the effort to use scientific and technological innovations to promote the people`s living standard at Borobudur Hotel here on Sunday.
He said the representative office will be assigned to make an inventory of business opportunities the Indonesian firms could do in Myanmar next year.
"They (the officers of the representative office) are required to make a report of business opportunities (our state firms) can develop there, including those in construction, plantation, and solar energy sectors or other business fields," he said.
The presence of the representative office is important because the progress achieved by Myanmar so far is inseparable from the service of Indonesia, he said.
"The Myanmar is getting better thanks to the service of Indonesia and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Don`t let non-Indonesian companies enjoy the results of what we have done to help Myanmar and improve their economy," he said.
He said when the United States and a number of other large countries were opposed to Myanmar joining ASEAN, Indonesia did not question the matter.
"Instead, Indonesia allowed Myanmar to join ASEAN. By doing so, peace, reconciliation and democracy could be created there," he said.
He said the ministry has targeted to open the representative office this year. (*)
