Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former state-enterprises minister (BUMN) Tanri Abeng believes that the current Indonesian presidential candidates should have seven prerequisites; they should be clean, clever, competent, communicative, courageous, committed and caring.

"Overcoming the nation`s problems today depends on who is responsible as the leader, and that person needs to have these seven prerequisites," Tanri Abeng said when attending a discussion entitled `Reformasi Birokrasi` (bureaucracy reform) at the residence of the Indonesian regional representatives (DPD) chairman, Irman Gusman, here on Monday night.

"Smart is not always reliable, so competence should be measured through experience and expertise," Tanri added.

According to him, a nation`s leader should be courageous and firm in order to make decisions in difficult situations, and this should be in line with a personal commitment made by the individual who holds the position.

Tanri further said that a good leader is one who cares and is sensitive to the problems of the people.

"Unfortunately, it is now difficult to find such a person," Tanri added. (*)
