The Earth Resilience Symposium that held on Wednesday, March 14, was brought together the Indonesian and Austrian scientist to discuss about three aspects of earth resilience which are energy sustainability, disaster resilience and food security.
"This symposium was supported by Vienna University of Technology and held at the Office of Austria`s International Cooperation of Education and Research Department," as told by Chairman of Committee Wikan Danar Sunindyo to ANTARA News in London, Thursday.
He said RI Minister of Research and Technology Gusti Muhammad Hatta in his remark through video conference, was delivered apology of his absence and very appreciated the effort of the two associations in organizing Earth Resilience Symposium that included in the seven priorities of the Ministry of Research and Technology`s research fields.
Those fields are food and agriculture, health and medicine, energy, information technology and communication, transportation, disaster management, and other advance technologist, such as nano-technology.
On the other hand, in the opening ceremony, Director of International Cooperation of Education and Research Department Prof Hubert Duerrstein said the importance of young scientist to develop their abilities and participate to solve the recent and future of global problems.
In the first session, Director of Austria`s International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis said the importance of global energy transformation to decrease the dependence of oil fuels and change it to the renewable energy.
Indonesian scientist of astronomy Dr Johny Setiawan, now working in Indonesian Embassy in Germany, said the use of advance technologists including the technology that used in space could be used to minimize the impact of disaster.
In the second session, Researcher of Netherlands NIOO-KNAW Achmad Aditya was presented his invention to save turtles ecosystem in Derawan Islands in East Kalimantan, that very connected with earth resilience.
The other topics that discussed in the symposium including food diversification in order to achieve global food resilience, disaster management and climate change.
