Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The state-owned enterprise for housing, Perum Perumnas, will build 100 thousand inexpensive houses in 50 Indonesia cities, CEO Himawan Arief Sugoto said here on Tuesday.

"The project is part of the government`s plan to provide cheap housing for civil servants, police and military personnel and people with low incomes. Construction will start in mid 2012 and finish in 2014," he said.

Himawan noted that the price of the 36-square-meter house would be around Rp35 million per unit.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Housing Djan Faridz said Perumnas would handle the construction of the inexpensive houses while his ministry will provide the infrastructure at the locations.

Among the 50 cities to participate in the inexpensive housing project are Pidie district, Aceh Tenggara, Nias, Tapanuli Tengah, Pasaman Barat, Kaur, Bengkulu Selatan, Seluma, Rokan Hilir, Majalengka, Purworejo, Temanggung, Pacitan and Malang.

Also awaiting inexpensive houses are Banyuwangi Karangasem, Kota Baru, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Kapuas, Pulau Psau, Paser, Penajam Paser Utara, Bolaang Mongondow Utara, Bolaang Mongondow Selatan, Bolaang Mongondow Timur, Gorontalo Utara, Pahuwato, Tojo Una-una, Bulukumba, Manggarai Timur, Bellu, Alor, Asmat, Dogiyai, Ndunga, Maluku Barat Daya, Majene, Sabu Raljua, Buton Utara, Buru, Halmahera Utara, Palembang, Batam, Samarinda, Tarakan, Balikpapan, Palu, Kendari, Bau-Bau, Kupang, Mataram and Ternate.
