"We strongly condemn the inhuman action by the Malaysian police."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Tens of thousands of workers from various labour unions have urged President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to take a firm stance on the fatal shootings of three Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia.
"Indonesia`s migrant workers are the largest foreign exchange contributors. As fellow workers, we must defend them," said Said Iqbal, the President of the Indonesian Labor Union Confederation (KSPI), in a massive rally observing the May Day at Hotel Indonesia Circle here on Tuesday.
He urged the government to withdraw all Indonesian migrant workers from Malaysia until there was a guarantee to protect them.
Workers grouped in the Indonesian Workers Council expressed their condolences over the shootings of the three workers by Malaysia`s police.
"We strongly condemn the inhuman action by the Malaysian police. If necessary, we can mobilize a solidarity movement to occupy the Malaysian embassy," Iqbal said.
On March 25, 2012, Herman (34), Abdul Kadir Jaelani (25), and Mad Noor (28), migrant workers from West Nusa Tenggara, were shot to death by Malaysian policemen in Port Dickson area, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.
The Indonesian police are waiting for an explanation from the Malaysian police regarding the incident which took place in March.
"We will see whether the Malaysian standard operating procedures (SOP) for pacifying targets were followed by police in Negeri Sembilan in the case of the Indonesian migrant workers," National Police head of public relations division Inspector General Saud Usman Nasution had told here recently.
The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) will set up an investigative team to probe into the recent shooting of three Indonesian migrant workers by Malaysian police, according to Komnas HAM chairman Ifdhal Kasim.
"If the House of Representatives (DPR) asks the rights body to investigate the death of the three Indonesian migrant workers who were shot in Malaysia, we will do that," he had said last Friday.
Ifdhal had also expressed his intention to include in the team activists from the National Commission for Women (Komnas Perempuan) and the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras).
