The Chinese nationals, identified as Ping Ying Mo (53), Zhang Jekyue (36) and Liu Quiqin (35), came to Indonesia on tourist visas but later worked for an oil palm processing plant at Paya Pasir village, Serdang Bedagai district, North Sumatra, Safawi, spokesman of the North Sumatra office of the law and human rights ministry, said here on Thursday.
Police arrested the three Chinese nationals after receiving tip-offs from local residents about their activities while in Indonesia.
The Chinese nationals were then questioned at the local police`s office and handed to the Pematang Siantar immigration office. They were later taken to the Belawan immigration detention center.
Under the immigration law, no foreign nationals who hold tourist visas are allowed to work in Indonesia.
"The three Chinese nationals are likely to be deported to their country of origin soon. They are taking care of administrative documents. Let`s wait when they are to be deported," he said.
To work in Indonesia, they must hold work visas and secure work permits from the manpower ministry, he said. (*)
