Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Tourism Promotion Board (BPPI) will focus on three main strategies, low season, creative economy, and green tourism, to attract domestic and foreign tourists.

"We have to be proactive in promoting our tourism industry," Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sapta Nirwandar said here on Thursday.

To attract as many domestic and foreign tourists as possible, he added, the BPPI would set its focus on initiatives relating to low season, creative economy, and green tourism.

Sapta explained low season was a program to attract domestic and foreign tourists during the off-season periods of January-March and October-December.

"The strategy concerning creative economy is to increase various tourism-based activities through exhibitions, festivals, conferences, and media campaigns," he stated.

With regard to green tourism, Sapta said it was an initiative designed to help tourism operators assess and reduce their environmental impact.

It is about improving the sustainability of the industry by recognizing the environmental impact of tourist activities and helping the operators reduce their energy use, water use, and waste production.

Green tourism encompasses the best environmental practices in the tourism sector, including issues such as business efficiency, environmental management, waste, transport, social responsibility, and biodiversity.

Meanwhile, BPPI General Chairperson Yanti Sukamdani said the implementation of the three strategies would optimise the promotion of tourism in the country.

"Besides, BPPI is also expected to strengthen Indonesia's position as a leading tourist destination in Asia and the world," she said.
