"Which is supported by all parties in South Sumatra."Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA News) - South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin has continued his efforts to improve the transportation facilities in order to accelerate the province`s progress, according to local transportation office spokesman Sarimuda.
"Some of the transportation facilities being developed in the province are the railway station, train service, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II airport, and Tanjung Api Api harbour in Banyuasin district," Sarimuda said here on Tuesday.
"They are part of Governor Alex Noerdin`s program, which is supported by all parties in South Sumatra," he added.
Meanwhile, Governor Alex Noerdin said he would continue to step up the development program in the province.
The governor noted the province was rich in natural resources in which investors could invest.
South Sumatra Regional Capital Investment and Promotion Board spokesman Permana said here last Friday that a team from ASEAN had visited the province to explore investment possibilities.
He added the team, sent by the ASEAN Permanent Representative Committee, was led by Ngurah Swajaya.
Speaking to the team from ASEAN here on Friday, Permana said South Sumatra was rich in natural resources, which were yet to be managed optimally.
"The province is rich in coal, geothermal energy, gas, rubber, oil palms, and other natural resources for investors," he noted, adding South Sumatra had many historical sites linked to the Kingdom of Sriwijaya.
In an effort to promote awareness about the Sriwijaya Kingdom, Permana said his party planned to build a small museum at Benteng Koto Besak.
