Bogor, W Java (ANTARA News) - The joint rescue team is still continuing the evacuation process of the victims of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 plane, which crashed at Mount Salak, West Java, after nine days of search efforts.

"We are still working and the team remains on the crash site, so this rescue operation continues," said Ketut Parwa, the Search Mission Coordinator for the Sukhoi accident, here on Thursday.

"The search and rescue operations are still on, because the evacuation effort is estimated to be 90 percent complete. The work is not finished yet," he stated.

"Besides, the rescue team is still searching the crash site, fearing that there might be victims who have not been found," Parwa added.

"Sweeping and evacuation efforts are still going on. The operation has not ended and will continue until it is declared to be complete," he explained.

Meanwhile, Basarnas chairman Vice Marshal Daryatmo has confirmed the rescue operation is not over and the joint team is still looking for the bodies of victims.

"We are constantly searching for undiscovered victims` bodies," he said.

The rescue teams are also trying to find the missing parts of the flight data recorder.

The Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 plane crashed into Mount Salak at a speed of 800 kilometres per hour (480 miles per hour) during rainy weather conditions. Russian and French officials have joined the investigation into the cause of the disaster.

The ill-fated aircraft was carrying representatives from local airlines and journalists on what was supposed to be a 50-minute demonstration flight.

Just 21 minutes after take-off from a Jakarta airfield, the Russian pilot and co-pilot asked ground officials for permission to descend from 10,000 feet to 6,000 feet and disappeared from the radar immediately afterwards. (*)
