TOKYO and LONDON, June 1 (ANTARA/Kyodo JBN - AsiaNet) --

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and Gyron Internet Limited (Gyron) jointly announced on June 1 that NTT Com acquired 85% of Gyron, a leading provider of data center services in the United Kingdom. NTT Com is further subscribing for additional equity in Gyron to provide capital for planned expansion projects.

Gyron, an experienced provider of colocation and associated managed data center services, currently operates a 3MW data center near London. It is building two more, with a total additional capacity of 16MW, which will begin operating between late 2012 and early 2013. Gyron provides a full range of colocation and connectivity services to enterprises, including large corporations such as software giants Adobe and Symantec, and the innovative music streaming service Spotify.

Gyron's data centers will strengthen the NTT Com group's cloud-based one-stop ICT solutions in the UK, Europe's ICT hub, and enable the NTT Com group to further accelerate its offering of increasingly diverse global cloud services.

Under the terms of the transaction, existing Managing Director, Robin Balen, and Operations Director, Ben Miller, retain their combined 15% ownership of Gyron, and will both continue in their current roles. Balen said, "We look forward to working with NTT Com and accelerating our expansion plans. Our existing and future customers will benefit from this investment and the continued provision of our high quality wholesale and retail colocation services."

The Rt. Hon. Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, said, "NTT Communications' investment confirms the UK as the ICT hub of Europe and is further proof that we are providing the right environment to attract world-renowned companies." He also said, "I met Mr. Akira Arima, CEO & President of NTT Communications, at their HQ in Japan last summer in the aftermath of the earthquake. At such a difficult time, I was keen to go there in person and reassure them that our door was open to do business with them, both in Japan and in the UK. I am therefore personally delighted with today's announcement by NTT Communications, which shows the strength of the trade ties between our two countries."

The ongoing expansion of multinational business operations is increasing the worldwide demand for seamless one-stop ICT services, including the managed operation and maintenance of networks, data centers, servers and applications. NTT Com, under its Global Cloud Vision, is leveraging its strengths as a telecom operator to provide total ICT outsourcing services, from networks and data centers to applications, all on a seamless, end-to-end, one-stop basis, to meet customer needs for cloud-based ICT systems.

Going forward, the NTT Com Group will continue to build global strengths aiming to achieve group operating revenues of at least 1.5 trillion yen, including a doubling of global sales revenues, by 2015.
