Kupang, NTT (ANTARA News) - The sister city cooperation agreement between Larantuka and Lisbon, Portugal, is not simply for promotion of tourism but a lot more, Flores Timur district head Yoseph Lagadoni Herin said here on Friday.

The Flores Timur district capital of Larantuka in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and the Portuguese capital of Lisbon officially became sister cities on May 23, 2012.

A memorandum of understanding was signed by Yoseph and Portuguese government representative Ourem Mayor Paulo Fonseca in Jakarta.

"Besides tourism promotion, the Larantuka-Lisbon sister city cooperation is also intended to promote education, culture, and economy," Yoseph stated here on Friday.

In the education sector, he said, there would be a student and teacher exchange programme, through which students from Larantuka could study Portuguese at schools in Ourem, Portugal.

In the cultural sector, Yoseph added, there would be exchange of art and research on the history and culture of the two cities.

The sister city cooperation agreement also covers the economic sector, as a result of which Portuguese investors will build a hotel in Larantuka. (*)
