"Sony has recovered."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia beat Peter Gade from Denmark in the first round of the Djarum Indonesia Open Super Series Premier 2012 badminton tournament here on Wednesday.

The 65th ranked player defeated the third ranked player from Denmark 14-21, 21-7 and 21-18.

He said after the game the victory had made him more confident. "I am glad I could beat Peter and certainly I am now more confident especially after I could also beat a seeded player (in Thailand) recently," he said.

In recent Thailand Open Sony overpowered world top player from China Lin Dan to proceed to the final round and later grabbed a champion title.

Regarding the loss in the first round against Gade he said it was because he did not force himself and he was unable to concentrate. Sony has so far recorded three victories and one loss against Peter Gade.

Peter Gade meanwhile said after the game that his match that evening might be the last because he planned to resign this year.

"Perhaps after the Olympic Games I would take part in Japan, Denmark and French Opens and finally at Copenhagen Masters (before resigning)," he said.

Regarding his loss to Sony the Danish said Sony had recovered from his injury and played very well in the game.

"Sony has recovered. Finally he plays normally again and I am glad to see him back. Certainly it is not good playing against him here. But the results of the match here would not affect his performance in the Olympic Game later," he said.

He said however he enjoyed the match despite the loss. "Certainly I wanted to win but I enjoyed the game and this would be my last playing here. I enjoyed the spectators here for the last time. They were great. I enjoyed the moment," he said.

Sony later would meet fellow countryman Taufik Hidayat who beat Andre Kurniawan earlier 21-18, 21-19.
