Los Cabos, Mexico (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his entourage left for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the Rio+20 Summit, the presidential spokesman said.

The head of state was scheduled to leave Los Cabos, Mexico, for Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday night local time after attending the G-20 meeting, Teuku Faizasyah, President Yudhoyono`s special aide for international affairs, said on Tuesday.

According to Faizasyah, President Yudhoyono will attend the Rio+20 Summit on June 20-22.

The Group of Twenty (G-20) Economic Summit was officially opened in Los Cabos, Mexico, on Monday, in the middle of a worsening European financial crisis.

The Rio+20 Summit is held to evaluate the developments and constraints in achieving the sustainable development after 20 years of United Nations Conference on Environment and Development 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, and ten years after the World Summit on Sustainable Development 2002 in Johannesburg.

In addition to attend the Rio+20 Summit, the president was also slated to speak in several side events such as the Conference on Green Economy, Leaders Valuing Nature: A Celebration of Commitments, and as a keynote speaker in the UNESCAP Regional Commissions Joint Side Event.

The president will also hold bilateral meetings with several heads of state and heads of government. After completing his meeting programs in Bazil, Yudhoyono will continue his visit to Ecuador.

It will be the first visit of Indonesian president after the two countries opened diplomatic ties on April 29, 1980, and a reciprocal visit to the coming of the Ecuador president to Indonesia in 2007.

During the visit, President Yudhoyono will meet with Ecuador president Rafael Correa Delgado and will make a courtesy call to the Ecuador Parliamentary president Fernando Cordero.

"President Yudhoyono`s visit to Ecuador is expected to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in various fields. Ecuador is one of important countries in South American region. Ecuador is also a member of FEALAC, a cooperation forum of the East Asia and Latin America," Faizasyah said.

According to him, President Yudhoyono and the First Lady, Ani Yudhoyono, and their entourage will return home on Tuesday (June 26).
