"So it was not a problem."
Jakarta, June 27 (ANTARA) - Ruling Democrat Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum came to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) office here on Wednesday after receiving a summon and to offer clarification on reports about his alleged involvement in corruption.

He denied all accusations of involvement in the alleged corruption in the sports facilities development project in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java.

"They have asked about what I know about the Hambalang project. I explained that I did not know about it and its development," he said after emerging from the KPK office.

Anas said he had also been asked if he had ordered his party faction member, Ignatius Mulyono, to settle the certification of the Hambalang land, which he said he had never done.

Regarding accusations that he had distributed cash during his election as party chairman, Anas said that those who claimed receiving money had made false claims.

"They faked receiving money for the election of the general chairman," he said.

Regarding accusations that he had received Rp50 billion and a car from PT Adhi Karya, the Hambalang contractor, Anas said it was also untrue.

Anas arrived at the KPK office at 10am as a witness in the alleged corruption case in the Hambalang project, accompanied by several party executives.

Regarding his receiving the summons, Anas said it was an opportunity for him to clarify rumors about his alleged involvement in the Hambalang project.

"With it I could even be able to explain about what has really happened. So it was not a problem," he said.

The Hambalang case has turned into a controversial issue as it has implicated several political figures. It was first revealed by former Democrat Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin, who is now in jail after being convicted of corruption.
