"At the plenum, we count the ballots from six districts or cities in Jakarta."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU) held a plenum to count ballots from the first round of Jakarta gubernatorial elections (Pilkada), conducted on July 11, in order to determine the winner.

"At the plenum, we count the ballots from six districts or cities in Jakarta," KPU officer Sumarno said here on Thursday.

"This plenum is a follow-up meeting, as part of the recapitulation process, conducted at the lowest level of regional administration (kelurahan)" he added.

"The vote count in the district level was finished on Tuesday (July 17)," Sumarno noted.

At the meeting, he said, the KPU officers would announce the name of the governor candidate who received the most ballots. Besides, KPU Jakarta would also determine whether the run-off election, scheduled to be held on September 20, was necessary.

Sumarno added that the run-off would be conducted only if no candidate got more than 50 percent of the total ballots.

According to ANTARA sources, none of the candidates attended the meeting, which started at 10 am local time.

The six pairs of candidates contesting the Jakarta gubernatorial elections were Fauzi Bowo-Nachrowi, Alex Noerdin-Nono Sampono, Jokowi-Basuki Tjahaja, Hidayat Nurwahid-Didik J Rachbini, Faisal Basri-Biem Benyamin, and Hendardji Soepanji-A Riza Patria.
