Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered the police, the Attorney General`s Office and the Foreign Ministry to coordinate effectively when handling the case of corruption convict Djoko Chandra.

"I was just officially informed [about the case] and I have instructed the attorney general to meet with the foreign minister, the national police chief and others to check Djoko Chandra`s status. If there are real issues, the matter must be dealt with immediately and we should communicate with the Papua New Guinea government," he said at a coordination meeting on law enforcement at the Attorney General`s Office here on Wednesday.

Djoko, who was convicted in a cessie contract case, fled to Papua New Guinea (PNG) in 2009 and has now become a citizen of the country.

President Yudhoyono said if the information was confirmed, the matter must be handled through diplomatic as well as legal channels.

"And it must be handled properly," he added.
