August 3, 2012, six domestic airlines' Garuda Indonesia, Metro Batavia, AirAsia Indonesia, Kalstar Air, Travel Express, and Lion Air, have proposed extra flights...Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Six airlines have offered extra flights in anticipation of increased passenger traffic during the Lebaran holiday season, according to Air Transportation Director General Herry Bhakti.
"As of August 3, 2012, six domestic airlines' Garuda Indonesia, Metro Batavia, AirAsia Indonesia, Kalstar Air, Travel Express, and Lion Air, have proposed extra flights," he said in a media release on Tuesday.
The extra flights would serve 21 routes across 17 cities, Herry added.
He noted that the most popular routes were Jakarta-Jogjakarta, Jakarta-Padang, Jakarta-Pontianak, Jakarta-Surabaya, Balikpapan-Surabaya, and Makassar-Surabaya, among others.
However, Herry pointed out that 13 other airlines had yet to offer extra flights during the Lebaran holiday exodus.
Based on data from the Ministry of Transportation, there will be an extra 488 flights, with a total capacity of 181,712 passengers, a week before and after Lebaran.
"When added to the regular flights, there will be 6,533 flights, with a total capacity of 2,126,146 passengers. We will also have 3,438,795 seats at 24 airports during the Lebaran holiday season," Herry said.
He added that the government, through the Ministry of Transportation, had instructed airport management authorities across the country to extend the working hours of airports in order to accommodate the expanded flight schedule.Â
