"We are very interested to cooperate in providing technology to improve the agriculture sector of Indonesia."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The United States is looking forward to cooperate with Indonesia in the agriculture and infrastructure sectors, according to visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs Jose W. Fernandez.

"We are very interested to cooperate in providing technology to improve the agriculture sector of Indonesia. In the infrastructure sector, US companies are known for their expertise in building infrastructure," he said.

Fernandez noted that the main objective of bilateral cooperation in the agriculture sector was to ensure sustainable food security for the Indonesian people.

"In infrastructure, the US has signed an MoU with the Indonesian government to develop partnerships between US and Indonesian companies to build infrastructures such as bridges and roads in Indonesia," he added.

Apart from cooperation in agriculture and infrastructure development, Fernandez said the US was also interested in strengthening trade relations with Indonesia.

"We believe better trade and business relations will not only benefit companies and producers but also consumers, because there will be more competitively priced products to choose from in the market," Fernandez explained.

"Indonesia had a trade surplus with the US in 2011. Its exports to the US reached US$19 billion, while its imports were at US$9 billion," he said.
