Magelang (ANTARA News) - Around 2,027,000 tourists visited the Borobudur Temple between January and August this year, which is about 90.3 percent of the 2,243,000 target set for 2012`s tourist traffic by the temple authorities, a Borobudur Temple official said.

The chief of the Borobudur Tourism Park, Bambang Irianto said here on Saturday that most of the visitors coming to the Borobudur Temple were domestic tourists and added that 126,543 foreign tourists have been to the temple this year.

"We are optimistic of reaching our tourist target for 2012," he said.

Irianto also pointed out that the number of tourists flocking to see the Borobudur Temple are increasing every year.

In 2011 as many as 2,116,116 persons, who included 166,524 foreign and 1,949,592 domestic tourists, came to see the Borobudur Temple.

During the ten-day Idul Fitr 1433-H holiday from August 17 to 26 this year, 228,319 persons turned up to see the temple.

"We will continue to promote the Borobudur Temple as a tourist attraction both at home and abroad," Irianto stated.
