Pane said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Police Watch (IPW) has said the series of shooting incidents in Solo city, Central Java, are related neither to terrorism nor to the Jakarta gubernatorial election runoff in September.
"From the investigation done by IPW, we have concluded that the shooting incidents in Solo are not connected either to the Jakarta gubernatorial elections or to terrorism. It`s a separate issue," IPW Chairman Neta S. Pane said here on Tuesday.
"The nature of the shootings was different from regular terrorist attacks, which are generally controlled remotely. Besides, the gunmen in Solo shot from a close range," he noted.
"Terrorists would have more likely used a suicide bomber. Moreover, the guns confiscated by the police are different from the ones used by the perpetrators," Neta pointed out.
He added that the assailants used a 9mm FN pistol, while the police had seized only Beretta guns.
"Therefore, the police cannot quickly conclude that the incidents are acts of terrorism," Neta explained.
He said the perpetrators` might have been targeting police officers because of other personal reasons.
Brigadier Chief Dwi Data Subekti was shot to death in a shooting incident at the Singosaren police post in Solo on August 30.(*)
