"We need some more time to reexamine and understand the indictment."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Angelina Sondakh, an accused in a corruption case, plans to file an exception to an indictment that says the Democratic Party lawmaker received more than Rp12 billion or US $1.255 million from the Permai Group company, her lawyers said on Thursday.
"We need some more time to reexamine and understand the indictment, and will file an exception to it as the accusation made in the indictment is unclear," Teuku Nasrullah, Sondakh`s lawyer stated at the Jakarta Corruption Court of Tipikor.
Sondakh, also known as Angie, was present at the trial, where she is being tried for her alleged collusion in a graft case involving the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Education and Culture Ministry.
During the trial, Sondakh requested the prosecutor to repeat certain points in the indictment, saying she was unable to understand them.
The accused, who won the 2001 Puteri Indonesia beauty pageant, is being tried on graft charges which allege that she received more than Rp12 billion or US $350,000 from Mindo Rosalina Manulang, a Permai Group company businesswoman.
Manulang reportedly bribed Sondakh for rigging a South East Asia Games construction project of the Youth and Sports Ministry and for another project at the Ministry of Education and Culture.
Sondakh was detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on April 27, and has been charged with accepting gratuities and bribes, and could be sentenced to 20 years in jail and fined up to Rp1 billion.
