Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Foreign Ministry has taken home a total of 331 migrant workers from Syria and Jordan who all of them arrived in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon.

The repatriation of 331 workers can be accelerated thanks to the diplomacy conducted by foreign minister Marty Natalegawa to his Jordan`s counterpart in Amman on early August 2012, foreign ministry said in its press statement here on Thursday.

The workers were picked up by Garuda Boeing 747-400 airplane and their repatriation was hailed by Vice Foreign Minister Wardana and his staff Tatang Budie Utama Razak.

According to Wardana, the Indonesian representatives in Amman found difficulty in an attempt to obtain the exit permit for the workers` repatriation due to bureaucratic problem in Amman.

The Indonesian representatives in Amman and Damascus needed about three months to process the exit permit for the migrant workers, Wardana said, adding the repatriation is a kind of protection that has been conducted by the Indonesian government to the workers.

To date, foreign ministry has facilitated the repatriation of 770 workers from Syria.

The repatriation activity which was conducted following an ongoing escalation of violence in Syria, was fully funded by the government. (B003)
