"I am proud to welcome these leading researchers whose work has made significant contributions to the world and even happier to see them share experience with Indonesian young researchers today," said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty here Monday in a statement issued by the Australian embassy.
"The researchers` achievements are proof to all that perseverance is the key to success and I hope this forum will inspire and motivate future generations of Indonesians to pursue their interest in scientific research," said Professor Marzuki, president of the Indonesian Academy of Science who was also one of the speakers at the event.
The senior researchers who attended the Young Researcher Forum were Professor Carmen Lawrence, former Premier of Western Australia and Australian Federal Health Minister; Professor Barry Marshall, 2005 Nobel Laureate for Medicine; Professor Sangkot Marzuki AO, director of the Eijkman Institute and President of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences; Professor Kadambot Siddique, 2011 member of the Order of Australia for his lifetime contributions to Agriculture and Food Security; and Professor Tim St Pierre, renowned biomedical physicist and 2010 Clunies Ross Medallist.
Their expertise spans the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease; climate change and environmental issues; agriculture and global food sustainability; psychology and human behavior; the physical sciences; and the capacity to transform research into practical solutions that make a difference to the lives of others.
Drawing from rich experience of the distinguished speakers, the Young Researcher Forum aims to motivate those who are embarking on a research career, or those involved in mentoring young researchers to be more interested in scientific research.
This forum is part of the "Science for Our Future Festival 2012" program, organized by the University of Western Australia and the Australian Embassy Jakarta. Over 500 Indonesian Alumni have graduated from Australian science academic programs through the Australian Awards program.
