...76-kilometer track...Purwokerto, C Java (ANTARA News) - The railway directorate general said it will start construction of double rail track between Kroya and Kutoarjo, Central Java in 2013.
"The project of the 76-kilometer track is the second phase of of a rail track project in southern part of Java," Surono, the chief spokesman of state railway company (PT KAI), said here Tuesday.
The first phase between Kutoarjo and Yogyakarta, 64 kilometers long , is already completed and in operation, Surono said here on Tuesday.
Construction of the second phase will be carried out by a Working Unit (Satker PLS) of the Railway Directorate General in cooperation with Japan Transportation Consultants Incorporated-Pacific Consultants International as the main consultant.
"Construction is to be completed in four years. The first step is land clearing," Surono said.
He said land clearing will cover at least 15,453 meters of lands and two houses belonging to local people in two regencies - Kebumen and Banyumas.
The process of land clearing is expected to be completed in mid December, 2012, he said.
In addition, around 30 buildings in a number of locations in the land owned by PT KAI between Kroya and Kutoarjo will also be pulled down, he said.
He said the contracts with land users for the KAI`s land to be used for the track will no longer be extended, adding, "It is in line with the points mentioned in the contracts."
"Many houses and kiosks built by local people in various villages in the two regencies will be pulled down for the project," he said.
He said Satker PLS will built a new tunnel around 40 meters north of the 600 meters Ijo tunnel, which is located in the village of Bumi Agung in the sub-district of Rowokele, Kebumen, used by the existing old rail track still in operation.
"The new tunnels will be larger around 22 meters wide 6 meters high with the same length of 600 meters, to accommodate the double track," he said.
