"MP3EI projects are real projects and are very much achievable."
Balikpapan, East Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has dismissed accusations that the government`s Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI) program is just an image-building exercise.

He made the statement here on Wednesday in front of invitees at a ceremony marking the ground-breaking of the Kariangau container terminal.

All MP3EI projects are well-planned and will become engines of development in the regions where they are located, the President said.

"MP3EI projects are real projects and are very much achievable," he added.

On Wednesday, President Yudhoyono also launched the construction of the Kalimarau airport in Berau district, situated nearly 600 kilometres from here.

He also inaugurated the construction of the Kaltim V fertilizer plant in Bontang, the new Samarinda airport, the Maloy international port, the East Kutai industrial zone and the Mahakam bridge.

With all the projects and developments going on over the past eight years in East Kalimantan, the province is no longer a `sleeping giant, the head of state pointed out.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa said the MP3EI projects in the region were worth a total of Rp19 trillion.
