Kampar, Riau (ANTARA News) - A flood hit five villages in Riau province on Sunday, inundating at least 44 houses.

"As of Sunday evening floodwater had increased to up to chest-deep in height at Mentulik and Rantau Kasih villages. The flood also affected Sungai Bungo, Bangun Sari, and Gading Permai villages," Kampar Kiri Hilir subdistrict head Irwansyah said.

Sunday`s flood is the second to hit the villages in a week.

"It was only a week ago that the previous flood subsided. This time floodwater again hit the villages, inundating at least 44 houses," head of Mentulik village head Tionsu said.

Until Saturday, the local authorities have distributed 2.9 tons of rice among flood victims. Of the total, 1.4 tons were distributed among residents of worst-hit Mentulik village. (S012)
