Ambon, Maluku Province (ANTARA News) - The police is searching for two prisoners who had escaped from the detention centre class II A Waiheru, Baguala subdistrict, Ambon City to the Seram Island.

The Resort Police chief of Ambon Island and Lease Islands, Adjunct Senior Police Commissioner (AKBP) Soehar Wiyono, said that the police is still tracking the two fugitives, Basir Manuputty and Hambali Salampessy.

"We have been informed that they have escaped to the Seram Island, so we are coordinating with the Resort Police of Central Maluku and West Seram to catch the fugitives," he said.

The police is tracking the location of the two prisoners who escaped on November 6, 2012.

"All possible hiding places of the two fugitives are being monitored intensively so that we can catch them quickly," he said.

Wiyono has urged the community to keep a lookout for the two fugitives and to report them to the nearest police post.

"We hope the community will help the police in catching the two prisoners who escaped after breaking the bathroom grill at the detention centre," he said.

He also said that some prison guards have been questioned by the police, regarding the escape of the two prisoners.

"We have questioned the prison guards regarding the escape," he said.

Two roommates of the prisoners have also been questioned.

"When we examined the detention centre, we noticed that the iron grill was not sawed, but was bent by the prisoners," he said. (*)
