Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Singapore`s President Tony Tan Keng Yam visited Dharmais Hospital in Jakarta to look into the progress of the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) program.

"I am happy to note that SIF is able to fulfil the country's medical needs. Cooperation between volunteers and experts can indeed enhance the relationship between Singapore and Indonesia," said the President on Thursday.

In order to run the program in Indonesia, SIF signed an agreement with Rachel House (Yayasan Rumah Rachel) and Dharmais Hospital.

Through this collaboration, medical and nursing knowledge can be enhanced. In addition, clinical skills required for palliative care services can be taken to a whole new level.

"However, this is possible only through the dedication of the volunteers. It is because of your dedication that this programme is successful," said the President.

In this visit, the President will have dinner with the Indonesian alumni of the Singapore Institute of Higher Learning and the Singapore Cooperation Program.

He also has plans of meeting the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, and he is keen on visiting the Gadjah Mada University and Magelang, where the Mercy Relief humanitarian project is being carried out.
