Bekasi, W Java (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission I extended material aid worth more than US$1 million to the Palestinian people while visiting the Gaza Strip on Nov 26.

"The House Commission I`s visit was intended to show our empathy with the Palestinian people as well as to monitor the latest developments there," member of the House Commission I Luthfi Hassan Ishaq said here on Sunday.

The aid was divided into two phases, with the first phase covering US$750 thousand and the second phase reaching US$500 thousand, he said.

"The US$750 thousand in aid has been handed to the Palestinian people," he said.

He said a number of representatives of the House Commission I, staff members of the Indonesian embassy in Cairo and 12 personnel of five Indonesian humanitarian institutes presented the aid to the Palestinian government.

"I myself helped arrange the delegation`s departure to meet the Palestinian prime minister. But my travel ended in Egypt. I had to return to Indonesia because of sudden affairs," he said. (S012)
