It happened around 12:30 PM at a subway station at 49th Street and 7th Avenue, and it was reported that the 58-year-old victim was pushed onto the rail tracks by another person after a possible argument.
The man struggled to get back to the platform before he was struck by the train, and he was then pulled from the tracks and taken to the nearby hospital in critical condition, but was later declared dead.
Local reports quoted witness as saying that everyone was evacuated from the subway platform after the incident, and police were interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video.
The New York city subway is one of the world`s oldest public transit systems, which was built over a century ago, and it ranks the seventh busiest rapid transit rail system in the world. However, it is not the safest one, due to its lack of protection infrastructure.
