Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said the meeting might also discuss the naming of Andi Mallarangeng as a suspect in Hambalang graft case.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received the Chairman of the Indonesian Commission for Corruption Eradication (KPK), Abraham Samad, at his office here on Friday.

The meeting discussed a plan to observe the International Anti-Corruption Day, which is celebrated on December 9 every year.

However, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said the meeting might also discuss the naming of Andi Mallarangeng as a suspect in Hambalang graft case.

At the meeting, President Yudhoyono was accompanied by Djoko, State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, and Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, among others.

Abraham Samad was flanked by the four Deputy Chairmen of KPK, namely Bambang Widjojanto, Busyro Muqoddas, Zulkarnain and Adnan Pandu Praja.

Earlier, the President called a press conference to announce that he had accepted the resignation of Sports Minister Andi Malaranggeng.

Andi resigned after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him as a suspect in the Hambalang sports centre graft case, which caused the state losses of Rp246.6 billion.

The minister, who is also a high-ranking official at the ruling Democrat Party, said he wanted to concentrate on the legal case filed against him.

"I accept the minister`s resignation. I appreciate his initiative to resign and I hope justice will be implemented in this case," the President said.

The anti-graft body had sought an overseas travel ban on Mallarangeng in connection with its investigation of the Hambalang sports complex graft case.

"It is true that the KPK had sent a letter to the Director General of Immigration of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights on December 3, seeking a travel ban on AAM, AZM and MAT from PT AK," KPK deputy chief commissioner Bambang Widjojanto said here on Thursday.

The Hambalang case has become a controversial issue because it has implicated several political figures. The problem was first revealed by former Democrat Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin, who is now in jail after being convicted of corruption. (*)
