Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police Inspector General Anang Iskandar was inaugurated as the new chief of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) here on Tuesday.

Inspector General Anang replaced Commissioner General Gories Mere who had led BNN since June 3, 2008.

Anang is not a new figure in BNN. He was chief of the BNN`s preventive center in 2008 and was director of advocacy for the BNN`s preventive deputy until 2010.

He was named the regional police chief of Jambi province on July 28, 2011 and on July 2, 2012 head of the public relations division of the National Police Headquarters before being named governor of the Police Academy replacing Inspector General Djoko Susilo who was removed following his alleged involvement in a corruption scandal.

At then inauguration National Police Chief General Timur Pradopo said that he had prepared the best figures before inaugurating the new BNN chief.

"We have prepared figures that could indeed carry out BNN`s mandate," he said. (*)
