Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) closed trading on Thursday with composite share prices down led by consumer stocks.

The BEI index closed 17.34 points or 0.4 percent lower at 4,320.19 points with the index of 45 most liquid stocks following to fall 0.54 percent to 738.70 points .

"Shares of consumer companies led by Unilever slipped pushing the index down," Milenium Danatama Sekuritas` analyst Abidin said here on Thursday.

"The mining and base industry stocks, however, rose holding the index from falling deeper," Abidin said.

He predicted that the BEI index would fall further in the weekend trade on Friday but only slightly

Trade frequency was recorded at 176,982 times with 4.849 billion shares valued at Rp5.548 trillion changing hands.

Decliners outnumbered gainers by 154 to 111 with 102 falt.

Regional markets Hang Seng recorded a 0.26 percent decline in index to 22,445.58 points with Nikkei-225 index up 1.68 percent to 9,742.73 points and Straits Times gaining 0.46 percent to 3,156.07 points.
